ABC Course Spring 2022

Get Your California Boating Card and Important Basic Boating Skills 

To obtain a California Boating Card you must successfully complete a qualified boating course. – our America’s Boating Course is qualified by the State of California. 

Your Santa Barbara chapter of America’s Boating Club (formerly United States Power Squadrons) is conducting its America’s Boating Course that teaches boating basics and safety (sail, power, PWC, paddle etc.) to you and your crew. More information about the California Boating Card Law can be found online at sbsps.net. 

The class will meet twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7-9 pm in the Waterfront Classroom.

Mar 14  7-9pm  Welcome, Class Materials & Session 1: Getting Started    

Mar 17  Section 2 – Required Safety Equipment &  Section 3 – Going Boating

Mar 21  Section 4 – Navigation Rules,  Section 5 – Navigation Aids &  Section 6 – Lights and Sound Signals

Mar 24  Section 7 – Government Regulations & Section 8 – State and Local Regulations

Apr  4    Section 9 – Finding Your Way &  Section 10 – Anchoring

Apr  7    Section 11 – Adverse Conditions and Emergencies &  Section 12 – Communications Afloat

Apr  11  Section 13 – Water Sports Safety, Section 14 – Trailering & Section 15 – PWC Operation

Apr  14  Section 16 – Knots and Lines, CA ABC’s of Boating & Exam  – 50 question NASBLA approved examination
